Heritage Hotels in Jodhpur

Jodhpur- Introduction

Jodhpur is situated at the edge of the Thar Desert as the sentinel of the country's western border. The city is famous for its magnificent forts and palaces. The Rajput chief Rao Jodha founded the city of Jodhpur in 1459. A 10-km-long wall made of stone surrounds the city. Eight doors stand all through the wall leading to different places of Jodhpur. The city has about 100 towers most of which are surrounded by defensive battlements. The guards' chambers, constructed high up above the ground and fitted with iron spikes on top, could be seen alongside these walls. Jodhpur is the second largest city of the state of Rajasthan. It has been drawing the attention of tourists from all over the world.

Heritage Hotels of Jodhpur

In the cities of Maharajas, the hospitality also tends to treat you like a king. Jodhpur has a number of heritage hotels and heritage resorts to serve you in the most grandeur fashion. Most of the heritage hotels were at once residences of former kings and queens of this region. These heritage hotels that were at once crumbling old structures, have returned to life today because of their renovation and the money coming from the hotel trade. If you are in Jodhpur or for that matter any part of Rajasthan, don't forget to pamper yourself with a royal treatment at any one of these sprawling mansions.

Ajit Bhawan

Situated amid the vast and serene desert milieu called Thar, Ajit Bhawan, the first heritage Hotel of India, stands as an oasis of hospitality, pageantry and Rajput charm. Built exclusively, for Maharajadhiraj Sir Ajit Singhji the younger brother of Maharaja Umaid Singhji of the erstwhile Jodhpur state. Ajit Bhawan, a legacy of Rajput heritage, is vibrantly alive with the personalized hospitality, provided by the late Maharaja's family, whose home it still is. The doors of this truly traditional yet subtly contemporary life style are open to you.

This outstanding location is the site for the Bal Samand Palace, a fine specimen of Rajput architecture in red sandstone surrounded by wide expanses of lush green gardens. Built on the banks of Bal Samand Lake, a 13th century artificial lake, the palace has been an exquisite setting for royal leisure and recreation. The palace is now operational as a WelcomHeritage Hotel.
